Following discussions with partners, site selection consultants, and others about the state of the regional workforce, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce needed a comprehensive labor availability analysis and report. The Chamber engaged the team of Chmura Economics & Analytics and Global Location Strategies to prepare the study.
Between September 2018 and March 2019, the Chmura team conducted a series of assessments of the labor market, available skills, industry competitiveness, and overall strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Regional stakeholders, including representatives from industry partners, workforce training organizations, community colleges, and universities, were engaged to validate the data and provide further insights into the region’s labor force and needs.
Recommendations and best practices were included to assist the Chamber in leveraging identified strengths, positioning the region to recruit and train workers for in-demand jobs, and acting on confirmed growth opportunities. As a result, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce is ready to put the study into action. As David Rodgers, Vice President, Economic Development said:
